DAPHNE’S TWO WEEK TRIP TO KERALA IN MAY route & tour description

Mumbai,Maharashtra
Mysore,Karnataka
Wayanad,Kerala
Cochin,Kerala
Munnar,Kerala
Thekkady,Kerala
Kumarakom,Kerala

Daphne got in touch with us to help plan her trip to India. She was traveling to India in the summer month of May and wasn’t sure where she could travel to. Having extensively explored North India in the past, she wanted to travel to South India. She was wondering if it is possible to do Kerala in May.

Summer in India kicks in from the month of April and ends in June. Traveling to some destinations in India can be unbearably hot in May. However, there are parts in Kerala that you can visit which still are relatively pleasant.

Daphne considers herself to be a flashpacker. She wanted to experience the wild-life and beaches of Kerala while simultaneously, exploring the usual favorites – the Backwaters of Alleppey and Cochin.

For accommodation, Daphne stayed in a combination of hotels, guest houses, home-stays and a houseboat in Alleppey. The places she visited had pleasant weather and interesting things to do, even though it was May (which is one of the hottest months of the year in India).

This is a great tour if you are looking to combine experiencing the bustling city life in Mumbai with enjoying the laid back atmosphere, temples and palace of the south Indian town that is Mysore, and ending with time in nature in Kerala.

The last week of the tour is all about nature and relaxation in the midst of coffee, tea and spice plantations and a visit to the Periyar National park. This tour ends with a relaxing night on a houseboat on the backwaters.

DAPHNE’S TWO WEEK TRIP TO KERALA IN MAY Tour itinerary

    Day 1-2

    Mumbai

    Stay at Abode Boutique Hotel

Mumbai can certainly be called a mega city with a metropolitan population estimate of 21 Millions. Traditionally not a tourist favorite, the locals will assure you there a certain charm to the city which you will discover if you take time to explore.

    Day 3-4

    Mysore

Stay at Mysore Bed And Breakfast, Mysore

Mysore (or Mysuru), a city in India's southwestern Karnataka state, was the capital of the Kingdom of Mysore from 1399 to 1947 and is therefore known for its glittering royal heritage and magnificent monuments and buildings. Most visitors come to see the world heritage-listed palace or to practice Ashtanga yoga in the many institutes.

    Day 5-6

    Wayanad

    Stay at Dhanagiri Homestay, Wayanad

Wayanad is a disctrict in the north of Kerala famous for its lush greenery and tea- and coffee estates. Less touristy than Munnar or Thekkady further south, this place welcomes hikers and nature lovers with easy to moderate hiking routes through forests and plantations to waterfalls and view points.

    Day 7-8

    Cochin

    Stay at Lazar Residency Homestay

This little sleepy town on a group of islands went through many colonists hands – first the Portuguese, then the Dutch and last but not least the British. So it’s no wonder that you find Hindu temples, Catholic churches in European style, Synagogues and mosques just a stone throw away from each other.

    Day 9-10

    Munnar

Stay at Dew Drops Farm Resorts

As the number one destination for domestic honeymoon travels, Munnar offers green and lush greenery and one of the best tea in entire India. This place in the Western Ghat mountain range invites you to hike through tea plantations and sandalwood forests, visit the many waterfalls and perfect viewpoints or just relax over a cup of tea.

    Day 11-12

    Thekkady

    Stay at Chrissie's

Thekkady is the heart of wild Kerala, “God’s own country”. Still in the Western Ghats mountain range you can experience deep rain forest, spice farms as well as different kind of plantations. It’s a great place to indulge into pure nature.

    Day 13-15

    Kumarakom

    Stay at Kumarakom Lake Resort

The backwaters of Kerala are a paradise of water lilies covered lakes, and small winding canals overgrown by palm and fruit trees and little villages far from urban chaos. Being a labyrinth of 900km waterways parallel to the coast of the Arabian sea this place offers serenity and peace for the nature loving traveller.
